Olanzapine is used for short-term treatment of agitation caused by schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
Olanzapine oral dosage has been determined to be 1.5 mg once daily. This may be increased to 3 mg once daily at the discretion of physician. A gradual reduction in the dose may be appropriate after approximately 3 weeks for patients who are not responding. The dosage should be increased abruptly. A change in dose should occur every 3 weeks while the patient is being treated with the drug.
As with the other medications in triazolopyridines class the oral dosage of isomers is variable and based on dosage form type. The following is a dose range for the oral isomers in Table 11. These are oral levothyroxine/L-thyroxine. A lower dosage of isomer will be required. The dosages in Table 11 are for the triazolopyridines. dosage of levothyroxine/L-thyroxine is also variable because of the oral dosage form and type (oral, transdermal, implantation, etc.).
For the patients having a weight less than 50 kg (110 drug store 6th ave nyc lb) the dose of levothyroxine/L-thyroxine should be reduced by 3.5 to 5 times weight. For patients having a weight 50 kg (110 lb) and above, the dose should be reduced by 4.5 to 7 times weight. For patients with a weight of less than 45 kg (100 lb) the dose should be reduced by 5 to 10 times weight.
The oral dosage for patients with type A (heavy) syndrome should also be reduced by 3 to 5 times weight.
As with all medications, it is important to note that the use of triazolopyridines for treatment-refractory anorexia nervosa should not be undertaken without the advice of a physician who has experience in the management of anorexia nervosa. Furthermore, it is important to note that when treating anorexia nervosa with triazolopyridines, the use of other medications should be carefully monitored. The use of stimulant medication, in particular dextroamphetamine (Adderall), may exacerbate the anorexia caused by any of the triazolopyridines. This, in turn, may increase the frequency and severity of psychotic symptoms seen in patients receiving the triazolopyridines.
Use in Pregnancy
Teratogenic Effects
No teratogenic effects have been attributed to any of the triazolopyridine drugs.
The safety of treating patients with thyroid disorder levothyroxine and thyroid-stimulating hormone has long been known.
Oral Toxicity
The only significant adverse reaction reported for levothyroxine/L-thyroxine in a placebo-controlled trial was headache. [see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS]. In patients with type A (heavy) syndrome, the incidence of adverse reactions was 0.8% for the levothyroxine and 1.9% thyroxine group. The incidence of adverse reactions was 0.12% for the levothyroxine group in a placebo-controlled trial. The most commonly reported adverse reactions were headache (0.9%), nausea (0.6%), dizziness (0.5%), restlessness (0.45%), and vomiting (0.42%), the most frequently occurring adverse reaction was headache (13.0%).
Aripiprazole
Aripiprazole has been reported to cause a rapid rise in serum creatinine levels, as compared with levothyroxine alone, which has a faster peak and more gradual decline. The maximum daily dose of aripiprazole in adults has been set at 1,800 mg. In children, the usual maximum daily dose is 300 mg. In a controlled clinical trial, 463 children with AHD reported adverse reactions at an average of 1.4 mg (maximum dose) per day during the first 2 hours after treatment with aripiprazole and at an average rate of 6 times a week in those receiving aripiprazole for a maximum of 7 days.
